Recognised Distance Education University

We know from the recent newspapers that one of the reason for the KAT Stay order for the recruitment of 2550 lecturers for the Government First Grade College is the distance education offered by 'questionable universities'.

There is a whole lot of debate and doubts about this issue for the aspirants who are waiting for the government order. The university/institutes that are sighted to be 'fraudulent' are Alagappa, Vinayaka Mission and Anamalai. The question now is how to determine if these universities are genuine or fraudulent?

As Prof.Thaper says in a related blog, that "All degrees done through Distance Education are eligible for Govt appointments provided the Universities offering degrees through Distance Education should have approval form Distance Education Council (DEC)"

He further sights the Dept. of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India notification No. 44 dated 01-03-1995 published on Saturday, April 8th, 1995 in the Gazette of India that:

“on the recommendation of the Board of Assessment for Educational Qualification, the Government of India has decided that all the qualifications awarded through Distance Education by the Universities established by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature, Institutions Deemed to be Universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and Institutions of National Importance declared under an Act of Parliament stand automatically recognized for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the Central Government, provided it has been approved by Distance Education Council, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi – 110068.”
Therefore we need look no further than the Distance Education Council that has the list of all recognized universities. And to the satisfaction of all the 2550 aspirants, the so called 'fraudulent' universities are in fact genuine and their degrees are valid. You may download the list by clicking here.
